PROJECT #19 - Curve Venue

The Curve Theatre was one of the most talked about of projects as it was one that would change the centre of Leicester forever by giving it a state of the art theatre.

The Curve Thetre boasts 12,500 square metres of space, employs around 60 people and supports twenty businesses.

The theatre was opened to a huge fanfare in 2008 upon completion and is seen as artistic in design, which is understandable given it was designed by the famous architect Rafael Viñoly.

Found in the heart of the Cultural Quarter, the Curve Theatre is the central attraction for the area and enjoys being the centre for many famous and more local productions on show. The theatre hosts two auditoria, the main theatre having 750 seats and the smaller auditoria having 350 seats.

The theatre was first drawn up as a project as early as the year 2000 and was completed in 2008 at a cost of £62 million, this money was funded and supported by the following organizations:

  • Leicester City Council
  • Arts Council England
  • The National Lottery
  • East Midlands Development Agency
  • Leicester Shire Economic Partnership
  • European Union (ERDF)
  • Leicester Theatre Trust
Today the Curve Theatre is a central hub in Leicester and the cultural quarter enjoying success as a top theatre promoting and showing high quality theatre productions, this makes the project a great success.

THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
