Since 2002 Leicester has undergone radical changes to its skyline through new buildings, old buildings being renovated and pedestrianisation in some areas combined with new road systems on others. This being said there is still areas that need renovating further.
Leicester Council has identified 88 areas since 2002 that need renovating, these ranged from full renovation from the private sector to partial improvement from the council itself, they also vary greatly in location. This plan has been called Leicester’s Strategic Regeneration Area and runs from around the Leicester City FC Stadium to past Abbey Park, from Black Friars to St Georges Retail Park. The area is large and encompasses so many large and small projects.
Of the 88 areas identified and created in to projects some have been completed, others are projects in progress and some are still projects under the planning stage. Many of the projects are of great interest to many for one reason or another and are costing hundreds of millions of pounds, so the question may are asking is who is footing the bill and will the outcome be as successful as the council wants them to be.
The Leicester regeneration section of New Leicester will talk about the Leicester Council plan and where they have achieved, where they are lagging and the outcomes of the 88 projects.
